One city, one day, two exhausted travellers — and absolutely no regrets! Who says you need a weekend away to explore a new city? On Saturday, 26 September 2026, we headed off on another Two for the Row'd adventure, this time taking on the legendary city of Liverpool in just one day.
With an early morning flight from Dublin and a late-night flight home, we had roughly 14 hours to soak up as much of Liverpool as possible. And, as usual, we weren't going to waste a minute!
Liverpool and The Beatles go hand in hand, so naturally, we had to dive headfirst into the city's musical history.
Our adventure included the famous Magical Mystery Tour, taking us around some of the places that shaped John, Paul, George and Ringo's early lives. From the legendary Penny Lane to the iconic Strawberry Field, it was a fantastic way to experience the stories behind some of the world's most famous songs.
And of course, no Beatles-themed trip would be complete without a visit to the Cavern Club, the legendary venue where the Fab Four played so many of their early gigs. Stepping inside felt like walking straight into a piece of music history!
We even managed to squeeze in a rather civilised afternoon tea at The Beatles Story, complete with a little sparkle!
It was a lovely opportunity to put our feet up, enjoy a treat and recharge before heading back out to explore. And with gluten-free options available, it was a welcome addition to our jam-packed itinerary.
To make the most of our limited time, we also hopped aboard a Liverpool sightseeing bus tour.
There's something brilliant about seeing a city from the top deck of an open-top bus, especially when you're trying to pack an entire weekend's worth of sightseeing into a single day!
Liverpool is a city bursting with character, incredible architecture, music, culture and maritime history. From its famous waterfront to its bustling streets, there's plenty to see beyond The Beatles.
See the whole whirlwind day — Penny Lane, the Magical Mystery Tour and plenty more.
💡 Our day-trip tip: Book your main activity first, then build the rest of the day around it. Liverpool city centre is compact enough to fit a surprising amount in.
The tour we did — Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and the stories behind the songs, in the places where it all began.
The easiest way to see the waterfront and the city's big sights when time is tight — and the top deck is the best seat in the house.

Liverpool proved that you don't need loads of annual leave, expensive hotel stays or an elaborate itinerary to have a fantastic adventure abroad.
Yes, it was a long day. Yes, we covered serious ground. And yes, we were fit for the bed by the time we got home! But that's exactly what our extreme day trips are all about: making the most of every opportunity to travel, even when you've only got one day to spare.
