Extreme Day Trips out at dawn, home by midnight

Who says you need a weekend away to explore a new city? Our extreme day trips are simple: an early flight out of Ireland, a full day packing in as much as humanly possible, and a late flight home. No hotel. One day off. No regrets.

What makes it "extreme"?

🌅
Out at dawnThe earliest flight we can get. The sooner we land, the more city we get.
🛏️
Zero nightsNo hotel, no check-in, no luggage. Just a small bag and comfy shoes.
🌙
Home the same nightLast flight back, fit for the bed, and already planning the next one.

🔎 Find your own extreme day trip

Pick where you're flying from, where you fancy and a date. We'll open a same-day return search for you. Then look for an early flight out and a late flight back.

💡 Not every route runs from every airport, and timetables change between summer and winter. If Ryanair doesn't fly it, Google Flights shows every airline. Aim for landing before 9am and leaving after 8pm.

⏱ How long would you get?

We knock off 1½ hours for getting out of the airport and back through security for the flight home.

🧭 Plan your own extreme day trip
  1. Find the right flight timesYou want the first flight out in the morning and the last one home that evening, on the same day. Check the airline's own website for the schedule on your date. Timetables change between summer and winter, so a route that works in September may not work in January.
  2. Book your main activity firstPick the one thing you'd be gutted to miss and book a time slot for it. Build the rest of the day around it. That's what made our Liverpool day work.
  3. Travel lightCabin bag only, or even just a small backpack. No bag drop at home, no carousel at the other end.
  4. Know your way in and out of the airportSort out how you'll get from the airport to the city centre, and how long it takes, before you go. On the way home, leave plenty of time.
  5. Leave room for a sit-downA long lunch or an afternoon tea in the middle of the day recharges the batteries for the second half.
❓ Extreme day trip FAQ
What is an extreme day trip?
An early morning flight out of Ireland, a full day exploring a city, and a late-night flight home the same day. No hotel, no annual leave beyond a single day, and as much as we can fit in between.
Can you really do a city in a day from Ireland?
Yes! On our Liverpool trip, an early flight from Dublin and a late flight home gave us roughly 14 hours in the city: enough for the Magical Mystery Tour, the Cavern Club, afternoon tea at The Beatles Story and an open-top bus tour.
How do you plan an extreme day trip?
Look for a route with an early outbound flight and a late return on the same day, then book your main activity first and build the rest of the day around it. Travel light so there's no bag to collect.
