Our 10-day North Island journey
The North Island is compact and accessible, but packed with contrasts. The Haka Tours route covers approximately 600km and connects major cultural sites, natural wonders, and adventure destinations. Days 1โ10 of the 19-day tour take place here, setting the stage for everything that follows.

Auckland (1 day)
The City of Sails is New Zealand's largest city โ vibrant, multicultural, and surrounded by water. The Waitemata Harbour, Sky Tower, waterfront cafรฉs, and nearby islands set the energy for your adventure. It's urban sophistication before you venture into wilderness.
Waitomo Caves (1 day)
Descend into an underground world where you can take a glow worm boat tour through cathedral-sized caverns lit by tiny bioluminescent creatures. The Waitomo village itself is charming, and the caves are genuinely otherworldly โ prepare to have your mind bent.
Rotorua (2 days)
One of New Zealand's most unique places. Rotorua is built on geothermal activity โ you'll see bubbling mud pools, shooting geysers, and hot springs everywhere. It's home to significant Mฤori culture, traditional weaving, and genuine geothermal wonders. The smell of sulfur and the energy of the earth makes this feel completely alien.
Tongariro National Park (2 days)
Home to three active volcanoes and the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing โ one of New Zealand's most stunning day hikes. Even if you don't do the full crossing, the landscapes are extraordinary: emerald lakes, volcanic cones, tussockland, and views that go for miles. This is where you feel the raw geological power of New Zealand.
Gisborne & Hawke's Bay (1โ2 days)
Often skipped by tourists, but genuine gems. Gisborne is where the sun rises first each day, with dramatic coastal cliffs and a laid-back vibe. Hawke's Bay is New Zealand's premium wine region โ rolling vineyards, Art Deco architecture in Napier, and some of the best kai (food) you'll find on the tour.
Wellington (1โ2 days)
Bold, artistic, and unapologetically cool. Wellington is home to world-class museums (Te Papa Tongarewa), incredible street art, craft breweries, and a food scene that punches above its weight. The wind is legendary, the coffee is exceptional, and the energy is infectious. It's the perfect stepping stone to the South Island.
