Kildare is where Nicola goes to work, with Kilcullen becoming the part of the county she knows through real life rather than a once-off visit. It is a small town built around the River Liffey, with its bridge, valley walks and familiar everyday rhythm.

A compact town gathered around the River Liffey and its landmark bridge. Kilcullen is Nicola's working base, so it feels less like a sightseeing stop and more like part of ordinary life in Kildare.
The riverside is the town's natural breathing space. It is ideal for a short walk that lets you see Kilcullen away from the traffic and appreciate how closely the town is tied to the Liffey.
On the hill outside the modern town, Old Kilcullen preserves the remains of an early monastic settlement, including a round tower and high-cross fragments, with broad views over the surrounding countryside.
Kilcullen works best as more than a drive-through. Pair the river and heritage with one of the town's independent cafés or shops and it becomes an easy, unhurried half-day stop.
