In August 2004, Nicola attended the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps with pit passes for the weekend. This was not a casual sporting event — this was behind-the-scenes access to one of the world's greatest Formula 1 circuits, to the Paddock where teams work, where drivers prepare, where the real racing machinery lives.
For any motorsport fan, Spa is sacred ground. The circuit is considered one of the greatest in the world — fast, demanding, dramatic. The sweep through Eau Rouge and Raidillon, the fast sections through the Ardennes and the circuit's famously changeable weather all contribute to Spa-Francorchamps' reputation.

Having pit passes for the weekend made the trip especially memorable, giving Nicola a much closer look at the world of Formula 1 than a normal race ticket would.
Jacques Villeneuve and the moment that didn't happen
Jacques Villeneuve, the 1997 World Champion, was Nicola's Formula 1 hero. With pit passes for the weekend, she hoped she might finally get the chance to meet him. It never happened — but it remains one of the stories she remembers from the trip.
Le Grand Maur
One of the other memories from the trip was dinner at Le Grand Maur in Spa. The historic stone setting, warm interior and multi-course dining made it feel like a proper occasion after a day immersed in Formula 1.
The meal was a gastronomic, multi-course experience and became part of the memory of the weekend alongside Spa-Francorchamps, the pit passes and the hope of spotting Villeneuve.

Reaching Spa
From Brussels: Spa can be reached by rail, usually with a connection. Check current SNCB/NMBS journey times and connections for your travel date.
From Liège: Liège is a useful gateway for reaching Spa by public transport, and the two work well together on a Wallonia itinerary.
Day trip or stay over? The distance from Brussels makes Spa better as an overnight destination. If you're visiting Spa-Francorchamps during the Grand Prix, you'll definitely stay overnight (or longer). Even visiting the circuit outside race week, 1–2 nights allows you to experience the town and landscape properly.
