We spent 10 days in Prague in August 2024 and absolutely loved every single day of it. A city of extraordinary architecture, brilliant food and drink, brilliant public transport and some of the most unique experiences we've had anywhere in the world — a robotic bar, an ice bar, a beer and wine bath, a medieval dinner and a Czech food and drink tour. Prague completely exceeded expectations and then some.
What Prague gave us:
We arrived in Prague in August 2024 expecting a lovely European city break. What we got was one of the most memorable trips we've done in years. Prague is genuinely extraordinary — the Old Town is like walking through a living museum of Gothic, Baroque and Art Nouveau architecture, the food and drink scene is brilliant, and the city has a way of making you feel like you could wander forever without getting bored.
The heat in August was something — properly hot for Central Europe — but the city's public transport system made getting around so easy that we never felt like we were spending our time sweating through the streets. The metro, trams and buses are cheap, reliable and brilliantly connected. The Prague Visitor Pass is absolutely worth getting if you're planning to use transport and visit attractions.
We did all the obvious things — Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, the Astronomical Clock in Old Town Square — and they absolutely lived up to the hype. But it was the less obvious stuff that really made the trip. The robotic bar was one of the most fun nights we've had anywhere. The beer and wine bath was genuinely brilliant. The medieval dinner was class. The Czech food and drink tour gave us context and stories that made everything taste better.
And for gluten-free travellers — Prague was a genuine surprise. Czech craft beer culture has embraced GF options and we had no problem finding good gluten-free beers in pubs throughout the city. It made the whole experience even better.
The largest ancient castle complex in the world — perched on a hill above the city with breathtaking views across Prague's rooftops and spires. The walk up is worth every step and the views from the top are unforgettable.
The iconic medieval stone bridge lined with baroque statues crossing the Vltava River. Go early morning to beat the crowds and get the best light for photos — it is magical when it's quiet.
The medieval Astronomical Clock is one of the most fascinating pieces of engineering you'll ever see — and the Old Town Square surrounding it is one of the most beautiful public spaces in Europe.
One of the most unique experiences we've had anywhere — your drinks are made and served entirely by robots. Part cocktail bar, part show, completely brilliant. An absolute must for a night out in Prague.
Everything is made of ice — the walls, the bar, the glasses. You get a warm suit to wear and it is genuinely brilliant fun. A unique Prague experience that you won't find in many other cities.
Soaking in a warm bath of beer or wine while drinking unlimited Czech beer is one of those uniquely Prague experiences that sounds mad but is absolutely brilliant. The hops are good for your skin too — that's our excuse anyway.
A full medieval banquet with entertainment, costumes and proper hearty Czech food. Great craic and a brilliant way to spend an evening — especially if you've already done the castle and want to keep the historic vibes going.
One of the best things we did in Prague — a guided tour through the best Czech food and drink the city has to offer. Gave us context, stories and the inside track on where to eat and drink for the rest of the trip.
An evening cruise along the Vltava with prosecco and stunning views of Prague lit up at night — one of those experiences that makes you fall even more in love with a city. Absolutely beautiful.
Ten days of wandering one of Europe's most beautiful cities — here's a glimpse of what we got up to.
