Byron is Australia's easternmost point, right where the coast turns north into Queensland, and it has been a magnet for surfers, hippies, backpackers and beach-lovers for decades. The town itself is small, walkable and full of the kind of relaxed cafés, bars and independent shops that make it easy to lose whole days doing very little.
One of the memorable East Coast stops around this part of our trip was an overnight stay on a ranch — one of those unexpected tour inclusions that turned into a brilliant memory.
